Bristol TV Production Company Makes RTS Shortlist

A Bristol based television production company has made the shortlist for The Royal Television Society (RTS) Programme Awards 2009.

Deep Wreck Mysteries Death of a Battleship, produced and directed by Crispin Sadler, Mallinson Sadler Productions, will be up against A History of Scotland and Shameless for the best Nations and Regions Programme.

The Awards from Britain’s leading forum for television and related media, celebrate all genres of television programming, from children's fiction to comedy performance, history to soaps. Covering both national and regional output the Programme Awards aim to recognise the work of exceptional actors, presenters, writers and production teams, as well honouring the programmes  themselves.

Death of a Battleship, produced for UTV sets out to discover the mystery of the sinking of one of the most powerful warships of the time, HMS Audacious, off the Irish coast at the beginning of the First World War. With the use of the latest underwater survey technology, adventurous technical diving, top historical experts and dramatic reconstructions, Death of a Battleship brings to life the events leading up to the sinking of the
battleship which had a far reaching implications on the outcome of the First World War.

Deep Wreck Mysteries Death of a Battleship, broadcast on UTV in 2009, has also won the PRIZE FOR HISTORICAL DOCUMENTARY - JURY SPECIAL MENTION at the 36th World Festival of Underwater Pictures Marseille, France 2009.

This is one of a series on shipwrecks around of the coast of the Britain and Ireland, two of which were produced with UTV. The series was co-financed by National Geographic Channel US, CanWest Global and History Channel UK and was made with Canadian production company Northern Sky Entertainment and Swedish specialist production company, Deep Sea Productions.

Chaired by Wayne Garvie, the Awards will be presented at a ceremony on the 16 March at the Grosvenor Hotel. The evening will be hosted by actor, comedian and radio presenter Rob Brydon.
