Annecy: pre-market planning workshop
Tuesday 18 May 2010, 10am - 4.30pm,
Venue: The Grand by Thistle Hotel, Bristol
Cost £150 per place (free to participants on the UK Animation stand)

This workshop was developed to support the UK animation companies participating in the UK Animation stand at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival & Market in June 2010. It was designed to help companies make the most of their visit to Annecy, providing general market information and exploring issues around branding, accessing key contacts and pitching. The participants had plenty of opportunity to ask questions and seek information that was specific to their company needs. Click here to see a detailed course outline.

"Thanks for such a pleasant and worthwhile event yesterday - really really useful - Alec was fantastic and it fired me up for Annecy." Tim Sagar, Hipster Medium

"Thanks for today's meeting - I'm really glad I was able to make it. It was time well spent and really made me think about my plans." Roger Benner, Freelance Animator

Doing Business in the US
Monday 23 November 2009, 10am – 4.30pm
Venue: The Grand by Thistle Hotel, Bristol
Cost: £150 per place

South West Screen delivered a master class exploring the issues of doing business in the US to support the UK delegation attending the Realscreen Summit in February 2010.

The session explored distribution, rights, co-production, brands, models and contract laws; how to make it work for you and pitching. Click here to see a more detailed outline of the day. Those attending the master class said:

“Many, many thanks for a really well structured, extremely helpful day. My head is still spinning from all the information and tips you managed to pack in and I'm not sure I've yet recovered from the hell of an elevator pitch. Although, seriously, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, it was better to mess up in front of friends, very useful to hear what other people's pitches are like and nice to discover it's not so difficult after all! Something lots of people there agreed was how good your own presentation was most importantly because there was no "salesman" in it, but a genuine belief in what you do which came across very well." Lydia Conway, Moondance Productions

“Just to say how useful I found yesterday's pre market briefing. It was really good to meet up with everyone else going and have such a good set of speakers. As you know, it has taken me a while to get up to speed on the trip (we have been out filming quite a bit) and this was just the spur I needed to get me thinking about Reelscreen as a priority for planning. The group talked about getting together again before the market, if that happened then I would very much like to invite everyone out to Halo for the get together. We have a big room with an open fire and a very local pub next door to us. I know it is a drive but it might make a different type of meeting place.” Peter Georgi, Halo Films Ltd
