Post Graduate Bursary

Do you aspire to a career in film, TV or digital media?

For the last five years, South West Screen has been pleased to help graduates take the next step towards a career in the creative media industries. Ben Mudge, Gideon Gold and Yolande Clerke were the three recipients of South West Screen Post Graduate Bursaries in 2008/09 to fund their MA studies in Documentary Practice, Film and TV Editing and 3D Computer Animation, respectively.

If you’re a student or recent graduate looking to gain the qualifications to break into the competitive fiilm or television industries, we hope to offer an annual industry-backed Post Graduate Bursary to contribute to the cost of your further study in 2010.

Please note this bursary is not currently open for applications.

Three awards will be made with a panel of senior industry members selecting the three award winners.

The aim is to provide financial support to post graduate students, for whom the cost of continuing studies might provide a barrier to taking up a post graduate level vocational course.

Talent, motivation and a well thought out career path are the main criteria. Applicants must be looking to attend a post graduate course with Skillset accreditation and/or industry approval. All relevant subject strands are eligible, there are, however, skills areas which the Bursary Fund has prioritised: script writing/ screen writing, film and television production, CGI and animation.

These bursaries usually open for applications during early summer and applicants are eligible to apply if they have received an offer letter confirming their place on a course but the course has not yet started. Please note, these bursaries cannot be funded retrospectively. Applicants must be resident in the South West, but their course of study can be anywhere in the UK.

We will know in early 2010 whether we are running the Post Graduate Bursary scheme in 2010. Please check back on this page then to see whether we are running the scheme and how to apply.
