Our work with young people is an important, and less seen, aspect of the work of South West Screen. With it, our aims are to:

  • Engage and excite the imagination of young people who are interested in a media career path
  • Help to unlock the creativity and enthusiasm of a wider number of young people, especially those who feel socially disadvantaged, or excluded from mainstream education, or who belong to communties where media creativity can be a focus for community cohesion.

We work with young people in a range of ways, including through our Moving Image Education Hubs, investments under our Lottery programme and an alliance with Creative Partnerships in the South West. A key element in all our initiatives is that they are young-person led.

Examples of recent projects include:

  • Support for young people's film festivals
  • Events and advice for those interested in entering the industry
  • Local production and exhibition projects with disadvantaged groups
